Based on locational point of view:
City Hotel (Downtown Hotel or Commercial hotel):
This type of hotel is situated on the heart of the city within a short approachable distance from shopping areas, theater, super market etc. The guests are general businessmen who come for business purpose for 1 to 2 days. The constructional pattern of the hotel is generally match box construction.
Residential Hotel (suburban hotel):
They are situated in the suburban areas away from the hustle bustle of the city amidst of peaceful and serine environment. The guests are generally old aged people who stay for a month or more. The staffs also are generally old aged. This type of hotel provides kitchenette facility.
They are situated near hill station, sea beaches, wild life sanctuary of forest, pilgrimage centers etc. the guests are generally holiday makers and their duration of stay extend from week to fort night. Resort hotels are generally spread over a large area. This hotel provides recreational facilities.
They are situated on the side of highways. They generally cater to travelers on road. Extra facilities offered by these hotels are fuel-station, car-parking and garage.
They are hotels that float on sea. They are stationery in nature and have no permanent connection with the main land. Example: Aswan Oberoi of Nile, Egypt.
Botels are hotels on the boat found moving around on lakes. Examples: Shikara on Dal lake in Kashmir.
Roatels are rotating hotels, which can be five categorized hotel. Example: The Palace On Wheels.
Lotels are hotels that offer helipad facility.
Novotels are hotels that offer five star facilities on service at an economical price.
Mattel are hotels, which has very less manpower and are controlled by sophisticated technological equipments.
Based on size of the hotel:
Hotels can be categorized according to its size also. Hotels that have rooms up to 25 are known as “Small Hotel“. “Medium Hotel” has 25 to 100 rooms. Containing more than 100 rooms hotels are known as “Large Hotel”
Based on the length of guest stay:
Hotel, where the guest checks in for a day or less are known as “Transit Hotel“. Where the guest checks in for a month or more are known as “Residential Hotel”. “Transient Hotel“ is an incorporated feature of both “Transit Hotel” and “Residential Hotel”.
Based on the facilities offered:
Hotel can be rated from 1 star to 5 star categorization on the basis of the facilities that offered by the hotel. In India the body HRACC (Hotel & Restaurant Approval and Classification Committee, GOVERNMENT OF INDIA. MINISTRY OF TOURISM.) grades the hotel from 1 star to 5 star super deluxe. A typical 5 star hotel offers centrally air-condition rooms and outlets and public areas, swimming pools, recreational facilities, gymnasium, wall to wall carpet in the room, mini-bar facility in the room, bathtub in bathroom, multi-cuisine restaurant, coffee shop, bar etc.
